What is your role within HCPSS?
As an Assistant Manager of Custodial Services, I help oversee daily cleaning operations, support and guide our custodial team, and ensure our facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and the community. My role includes providing customer service, monitoring quality of work, and addressing concerns to keep operations running smoothly. What I enjoy most is working alongside a dedicated team and seeing the positive difference our work makes for everyone who uses our facilities.

Why did you choose to work in education?
I chose to work in education because, as a parent, I understand how important it is for children to have a clean, safe, and welcoming place to learn. Working in custodial services gives me the opportunity to support students and teachers in a meaningful way, even if my work happens behind the scenes.

I started as a night custodian, where I learned firsthand the hard work, attention to detail, and teamwork it takes to prepare a school for the next day. As I gained experience, I took on more responsibility and worked my way up through the ranks to become an Assistant Manager of Custodial Services. That experience helps me understand the challenges my team faces and lead with respect and appreciation. What I enjoy most is supporting my team while knowing that our work makes a difference for students, families, and staff every day.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?
The best professional advice I’ve ever received is to stay authentic and be honest. Treat people with respect and remain true to your values. As an Assistant Manager of Custodial Services, I apply that advice by communicating openly, taking responsibility for my actions, and leading by example.

What is something you like a lot that would surprise people?
Something I really like to do is to explore nature. It calms my nerves and helps me recharge.

What is on your bucket list?
One goal on my bucket list is to take on an ultramarathon and see just how far I can go. I recently got into running, and I’d love to build my endurance, challenge myself with longer distances, and eventually complete a race I once would have thought was impossible.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever been?
Iceland is the most interesting place I’ve ever been. Its waterfalls, glaciers, and hot springs make it feel like another world. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves nature and adventure.
